What is Talk to Figma MCP?
Talk to Figma MCP is an open-source server that lets an AI coding agent read, analyze and modify Figma designs. It uses a local WebSocket server and a Figma desktop plugin, and the README says it works with any Figma account, including free ones, unlike a Dev Mode license route.
Talk to Figma MCP is a community fork of cursor-talk-to-figma-mcp, adapted for several AI coding agents. It has three parts: a local WebSocket server, a Figma desktop plugin, and the MCP server your agent launches. Together they let an agent read and change a Figma file.
The README says it needs no Dev Mode license, unlike Figma's official server, so it works with any Figma account. For the official option, see Figma MCP.
What it changes in your workflow
- The agent audits a design: document info, selection, styles, text nodes and components.
- It creates frames, text, shapes and groups, and edits colors, borders, corners, shadows and auto layout.
- It can run bulk updates, such as swapping one brand color across the document.
- A command queue lets several agents work in the same file in parallel.
How the three parts connect
| Part | What it does | How you run it |
|---|---|---|
| WebSocket server | Relays commands between the agent and Figma | npx claude-talk-to-figma-mcp, then bun run socket in later sessions |
| Figma plugin | Receives commands and returns responses | Import the plugin manifest in Figma Desktop |
| MCP server | Gives the agent its tools | Started by your AI client from its MCP config |
Who it is for
Best for
- Designers and developers without a Dev Mode seat who still want an agent in Figma.
- UX teams running accessibility audits or bulk style changes.
- Teams using several agents at once, since the queue serializes requests.
Not for
- Setups that need no local relay. Framelink MCP for Figma reads through the REST API instead.
- Quick one-step installs. This one needs the socket, the plugin and the MCP entry.
Use it with UiChemy
This server edits Figma files for your agent. UiChemy's Figma to WordPress product turns Figma designs into editable WordPress pages, with AI Express Mode or Classic Mode. Click Get Started on uichemy.com.
Connect Talk to Figma MCP: Read and Edit Figma With an Agent to your AI client
npx claude-talk-to-figma-mcpStart the WebSocket server
In a terminal, run npx claude-talk-to-figma-mcp. In later sessions, run bun run socket from the project folder. The status page is at localhost port 3055.
Install the plugin
In Figma Desktop go to Menu, Plugins, Development, Import plugin from manifest, and choose src/claude_mcp_plugin/manifest.json from the project folder.
Configure your agent
For Cursor add the config above to mcp.json. For Claude Code run claude mcp add ClaudeTalkToFigma with the same npx -p arguments. Claude Desktop uses a downloadable .dxt file.
Open the plugin and copy the channel ID
Run the plugin in Figma and copy the channel ID shown in the green box.
Connect
Tell your agent to connect to Figma with that channel ID, then start prompting.

- Works with free accountsThe README says it needs no Dev Mode license, so any Figma account works.
- Design analysisRead document info, selection, styles and text nodes, and audit components.
- Element creationCreate frames, text and shapes with style control, then clone, group and organize them.
- Modification toolsChange colors, borders, corners, shadows, auto layout and typography, including local and team library components.
- Image toolsSet, replace and transform image fills. URL images must be allow-listed in the plugin manifest, or use base64.
- Parallel agentsA server-side command queue lets several agents edit one file without timeouts.
- Explicit parent IDsStateful commands such as set_current_page are blocked in multi-agent use, so creation commands need an explicit parentId.
Tools it exposes
join_channel
Connects the agent to Figma using the channel ID from the plugin.
get_document_info
Gets an overview of the document.
get_selection
Returns what is currently selected.
get_node_info
Inspects a specific element, with a batch version for several nodes.
scan_text_nodes
Finds all text nodes for a text audit or update.
get_styles
Reads the document's styles for a color and text style audit.
export_node_as_image
Exports a node as an image asset.
create_frame
Creates layout containers. Sits alongside create_text, create_rectangle, create_ellipse and other creation tools.
set_fill_color

Frequently asked questions
What is Talk to Figma MCP?
It is an open-source MCP server, based on cursor-talk-to-figma-mcp, that lets an AI coding agent read, analyze and modify Figma designs. It relies on a local WebSocket server and a Figma desktop plugin to carry commands both ways.
How do I set up Talk to Figma MCP?
Start the relay with npx claude-talk-to-figma-mcp, import the plugin manifest in Figma Desktop, add the MCP entry to your agent's config, then open the plugin, copy the channel ID and tell your agent to connect to it.
Does it need a Figma paid plan or Dev Mode?
No. The README says it works with any Figma account, even free ones, unlike the official Figma MCP route that requires a Dev Mode license. You still need the Figma desktop app, since the browser cannot import development plugins.
Which AI coding agents work with it?
The README lists Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Antigravity, Windsurf, VS Code with GitHub Copilot, Cline and Roo Code. Any other MCP client that can launch a stdio command may work, but those are the documented ones.
Can several agents edit one file?
Yes. A built-in command queue processes requests one at a time on the server side. Because implicit page context is unsafe with many agents, set_current_page is blocked and creation commands must carry an explicit parentId.
Can it run in Docker?
Yes. The installation guide describes running the WebSocket server in Docker for team environments, with the status check on port 3055. The plugin and MCP entry setup stay the same.
How current is the repository?
The last push shown on GitHub was April 18, 2026, which is older than other Figma servers here. Check the changelog and open issues before you depend on it, and compare the official server.
