What is the sleek-design-mobile-apps skill?
The sleek-design-mobile-apps skill is the official Sleek agent skill for creating and editing mobile app designs through a REST API. Your agent creates projects, sends chat briefs, takes screenshots, fetches screen HTML, and can then implement the design in React Native or HTML.
Sleek gives every project, screen, component, version and theme an opaque 11-character id with no type prefix. The skill therefore tells your agent to track each id by the response field it arrived in.
It is the official skill from Sleek, the AI mobile app design tool, published in the sleekdotdesign agent-skills repository. Its SKILL.md covers the REST API, and companion files cover designing, implementing and styling.
The design and implement loop
- Designing: create a project, chat with Sleek for screens, then screenshot the result. designing.md also explains how to write a style direction.
- Seeding: the skill says when to start from a reference instead of writing a style direction from scratch.
- Implementing: implementing.md covers version selection, native conversion, working features and acceptance checks.
- One run can do both, such as designing a fitness app and then building it in Expo.
Two kinds of screenshot
| Shot | How it is framed | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| User shot | Default render, viewport height, phone-shaped | Showing the design to the user |
| Review shot | fullHeight: true, one component per request | Judging the agent's own work |
What the API exposes
| Area | Endpoints | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Projects | List, create, get, delete | projects:read, projects:write |
| Components | List and get per project | components:read |
| References | List style references | any valid key |
| Chat | Post a message, get a run, cancel a run | chats:write, chats:read |
| Renders | Screenshots and share cards | screenshots |
| Device login | Start and poll | public, no auth |
All 14 endpoints sit under /api/v1, and the skill suggests creating a key that holds only the scopes the task needs. An OpenAPI spec is published for any contract detail the skill omits.
Getting access
- Set the
SLEEK_API_KEYenvironment variable if you already have a key. - Otherwise the skill runs a device flow: your agent shows a verification link and a user code, you confirm the code matches, and the key is stored privately.
- As a fallback, you can create a key on Sleek's setup page and paste it back.
- Free accounts can try the API with one-time trial credits, about one design run. Sustained use needs the Pro plan or higher.
Who the skill is for
Best for
- Designing app screens from a text brief, then implementing them in React Native or HTML.
- Developers who prefer one agent session over switching between a design tool and an editor.
- Projects that need styling guidance for NativeWind, Uniwind or plain StyleSheet code.
Not for
- Offline work. Every step calls Sleek's hosted API and needs an account and key.
- Web page layouts. For web UX patterns, see ux-design.
- Anyone avoiding a paid plan for sustained use, since trial credits cover about one run.
Use it with UiChemy
Sleek designs mobile app screens, which UiChemy does not convert. If the same product needs a marketing site on WordPress, design the page in Figma and convert it with UiChemy Figma to WordPress. Click Get Started on uichemy.com.
How to install Sleek Design Mobile Apps Skill: Setup and Workflow
git clone https://github.com/sleekdotdesign/agent-skills.gitA free account holds one active key at a time, and the full key value is shown only once at creation. Keys can be managed on the Sleek dashboard.Clone the repository
Run the command above. The README's installer uses a different tool, and copying the folder by hand gives your agent the same files.
Copy the skill folder
Copy skills/design-mobile-apps into the folder your agent loads skills from. It holds SKILL.md, designing.md, endpoints.md, implementing.md and the styling folder.
Provide a Sleek API key
Set
SLEEK_API_KEYin your environment, or let the skill run the device flow so you never handle the raw key. A Sleek account is required.Ask for a design
Describe the app and the screens you want. The agent creates a project, chats with Sleek and shows you a screenshot.
Check that it loaded
Ask the agent to design a fitness app with a home and a workout screen. With no key set, it should start the device flow and show a verification link and a user code.
Key features
- Official Sleek skillPublished by Sleek for creating and editing mobile app designs through its REST API, including account setup, screenshots and screen HTML.
- Create, chat, screenshotThe designing guide centers on a loop: create a project, send chat messages for screens, then capture screenshots to check the result.
- Style direction or referenceExplains how to author a style direction and when to seed one from a reference, using the references endpoint.
- Implementation guidanceimplementing.md covers version selection, native conversion, working features and acceptance checks for React Native or HTML builds.
- Three styling guidesA styling folder holds nativewind.md, stylesheet.md and uniwind.md, so the agent can match the code style your app uses.
- User and review shotsSeparates the phone-shaped render shown to the user from a full-height, one-component review render used for self-checking.
- Scoped API keysEndpoints list their required scope, so a key can be created with only projects, components, chats or screenshots access.
- Device-flow sign-inStarts a login without auth, shows a link and code, polls until approved, and stores the key once without you handling the raw value.
- Run control and errorsDocuments 401, 403, 404, 400, 409 and 429 codes, plus run errors such as out_of_credits, with a cancel endpoint for active runs.
- Safe response parsingAdvises writing curl output to a file before parsing, because piping JSON through echo can corrupt escaped newlines in zsh.
Frequently asked questions
What is the sleek-design-mobile-apps skill?
It is the official Sleek agent skill for designing mobile app screens. Through Sleek's REST API your agent can create projects, send chat briefs, take screenshots and fetch screen HTML, then implement the design in React Native or HTML using the included guides.
How do I install the sleek-design-mobile-apps skill?
Clone the agent-skills repository and copy the skills/design-mobile-apps folder into your agent's skills location. Then set the SLEEK_API_KEY environment variable, or let the skill run its device flow, which shows a verification link and code for you to approve.
Which AI coding agents can use the sleek-design-mobile-apps skill?
The repository topics list claude-code, codex and cursor, and the skill is a standard SKILL.md folder. The README names no other compatibility list. Whatever the agent, it must be able to make HTTP requests, since the whole workflow runs through the Sleek API.
Do I need a Sleek account and API key?
Yes. The skill requires SLEEK_API_KEY. Free accounts can try the API with one-time trial credits, about one design run, while sustained use needs the Pro plan or higher. The skill reads current pricing from Sleek's agents page instead of quoting numbers.
How does it get an API key without exposing it?
It starts a device flow with no auth: you get a verification link and a user code, confirm the code matches, and approve. The agent polls until approved and stores the key privately as SLEEK_API_KEY on first read, since the key is handed over once.
What can the skill build after the design is done?
The skill description mentions implementing designs in React Native or HTML, and its guide covers native conversion, working features and acceptance checks. Styling notes exist for NativeWind, Uniwind and StyleSheet. For web layouts, see frontend-ui-engineering.
What happens when a design run fails or credits run out?
An out_of_credits error means the organization has no credits left, so the agent should relay the provided link and wait for you. A 409 means another run is active for the project. A 429 means the hourly render cap was hit. Related: stitch-generate-design.
What license does the sleek-design-mobile-apps skill use?
The repository is MIT licensed, per GitHub and the README. Sleek itself is a hosted service with plans and credits, so the license covers the skill files, not your usage of the API.
